Thursday 13th December 2012
In today's lesson, both groups were put together for the two hours so we did not perform in front of each other this week. Instead of this, we all took turns in going into another room with Lynn and we sang through our song in front of her and got given feedback. During the lesson, I had many areas of strength: Although I was still not confident with singing in front of people, I got on with it and sang my song through so that I could get given feedback to improve for the audition. She told me that I need to make sure that I perform with more confidence and I should put emotion into the song. During the lesson, i also had many areas for improvement: I had all lesson to practise my song, howver, because everyone was in the same room, I did not want to sing out loud so i did not practise after I had sang to Lynn which was valuable time which I could have used. My targets for my performance are to make sure that I take on board Lynn's feedback for me by characterizing, showing emotion and showing confidence within it and to also try to control my voice by using the breathing techniques which we have learnt to hopefully present a good performance.
Thursday 6th December 2012
In today's lesson, we all had to sing our song through on our own in front of the rest of the group. I was really nervous about doing this as I am not a singer and I was terrified to sing in front of people. However, I am glad that we did this because once we had sang our song, we got given feedback on how to improve for the assessment. It was not as bad as what I thought it would be and it made me more confident as I now know what it will be like in the assessment. During the lesson, I had many areas of strength: even though I was really nervous to sing in front of my group, I got on with it and sang so that I could get feedback to help me improve. I also gave feedback to my peers when they got up and sang so that I can help them improve for the assessment too. Peer support is important and it helps you be more confident and comfortable with singing. During the lesson, I also had many areas for improvement: I was shaking a lot during my sing through of my song due to my nerves so when it came to the big note in my song, I did not do it because I was really conscious of my voice cracking and it not sounding very good. My targets for my audition assessment are to make sure that I try to control my nerves during the performance so that I can get through the song without shaking and so I am not conscious of my voice cracking on the big note. Also to make sure that I show the emotion which I need to during the performance so that I do not show my nerves and I characterize it correctly.
'When there was me and you' Lyrics
It's funny when you find yourself
Looking from the outside
I'm standing here but all I want
Is to be over there
Why did I let myself believe
Miracles could happen
Cause now I have to pretend
That I don't really care
I thought you were my fairytale
A dream when I'm not sleeping
A wish upon a star
That's coming true
But everybody else could tell
That I confused my feelings with the truth
When there was me and you
I swore I knew the melody
That I heard you singing
And when you smiled
You made me feel
Like I could sing along
But then you went and changed the words
Now my heart is empty
I'm only left with used-to-be's
And once upon a song
Now I know you're not a fairytale
And dreams were meant for sleeping
And wishes on a star
Just don't come true
Cause now even I can tell
That I confused my feelings with the truth
Because I liked the view
When there was me and you
I can't believe that
I could be so blind
It's like you were floating
While I was falling
And I didn't mind
Cause I liked the view
Thought you felt it too
When there was me and you

Synopsis
On the front steps of East High, it’s the first day after winter break. The Jocks, Brainiacs, Thespians and Skater Dudes find their cliques, recount their vacations, and look forward to the new year. In Ms. Darbus’s homeroom, basketball team captain Troy discovers that Gabriella, a girl he met singing karaoke on his ski trip, has just enrolled at East High. When he calls her, the eccentric drama teacher quickly confiscates all cell phones and assigns detention.Between classes, Gabriella and Troy look at the audition sign-up for the school musical, but the drama diva Sharpay discourages them. At basketball practice, Troy tries to shake his desire to sing at the urging of his best friend Chad. Taylor, the science club president, discovers Gabriella’s intelligence and encourages her to join the upcoming science decathlon. While the students learn how to “act” at detention, Troy’s dad, Coach Bolton, faces off with Ms. Darbus – his star players can’t miss practice for Friday’s championship game!
The next day, hopeful Thespians strut their stuff for Ms. Darbus but they’re no match for Sharpay and her twin brother Ryan. Troy and Gabriella arrive too late to audition, but Kelsi, the show's composer, plays the song her way and encourages them to sing. Ms. Darbus overhears and gives them a callback.
News spreads fast. Sharpay is furious, and some students try to break out of their cliques during lunch. Troy and Gabriella escape to the rooftop garden and share a little bit about their real selves. The Jocks and Brainiacs devise a plan to trick Troy and Gabriella into forgetting about the musical and committing to their respective competitions.
Thinking each one has betrayed the other, Gabriella and Troy are crushed. Against Ryan’s advice, Sharpay convinces Ms. Darbus to move the callbacks to conflict with the science decathlon and championship game. Chad and Taylor put their heads together to make things right again. While the Jocks and Brainiacs compete, Sharpay and Ryan pull off a polished callback performance. When Taylor’s laptop shuts down the electricity, Troy and Gabriella rush to the theatre, but are too late. However, when the East High students arrive to rally behind them, Ms. Darbus relents, and they sing their way into the lead roles.
Back at the gym, the Wildcats win the game and the whole school comes together as winners.

'High School Musical'
Accessed-19th December 2012
After Christmas break, Troy sees Gabriella in his homeroom, and she explains that she just moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico and transferred to a fictional East High School over break. Troy shows Gabriella around the school, and they pause in front of the sign-up sheet for the winter musical auditions. This alarms Drama Club president Sharpay Evans, who assumes that Gabriella is interested in auditioning. Wanting to eliminate competition, Sharpay investigates the new girl and arranges for the scholastic decathlon captain, Taylor McKessie, to find out about Gabriella's past academic achievements.
During basketball practice, Troy has trouble focusing because his thoughts are on Gabriella and the idea that he might enjoy singing more (Get'cha Head In the Game). Gabriella and Troy both go to the musical auditions where Sharpay and her twin brother Ryan perform (What I've Been Looking For) but both are too shy to audition. When Gabriella finally summons the courage to step forward, Troy offers to sing with her, but Ms. Darbus tells them that they are too late. After Ms. Darbus apparently leaves, Kelsi Nielson, the composer of the musical, trips and drops her things. Troy and Gabriella rush to help her, and they sing together as Kelsi plays piano (What I've Been Looking For (Reprise)). Ms. Darbus overhears them and gives them a callback audition.
When the callback list is posted, Sharpay is furious to learn that she has competition for the lead in the musical, and the rest of the Wildcats are shocked that Troy and Gabriella have auditioned for a musical. Other students confess their own secret passions and talents (Stick To The Status Quo), alarming both Taylor and Troy's friend Chad Danforth. Since Gabriella has agreed to join the scholastic decathlon team, both Taylor and Chad want their teammates to focus on their upcoming competitions rather than the musical. To help Troy and Gabriella return to normal, Chad and the basketball team trick Troy into saying that Gabriella is not important while she watches through a wi-fi link that the scholastic decathlon team has set up. Gabriella is hurt (When There Was Me And You), she refuses to talk to Troy and decides not to audition for the musical. Chad and Taylor feel guilty for ruining Troy and Gabriella's relationship, and decide to tell them the truth. After Chad and the basketball team tell Troy what they did and offer to support him in callbacks, Troy goes to Gabriella's house and they make up.
Intimidated after overhearing Gabriella and Troy practicing, Sharpay convinces Ms. Darbus to change the callback time to coincide with both the basketball championship and the scholastic decathlon, so that Gabriella and Troy cannot participate. Kelsi overhears the conversation and the basketball team and the decathlon team work together to come up with a plan. On the day of the competitions, Taylor and Gabriella use the school's computers to cause a series of mishaps that delay the big game and the decathlon. With both competitions delayed, Troy and Gabriella rush to the auditorium, and Sharpay and Ryan finish performing their song (Bop To The Top), confident that their plan worked. Troy and Gabriella then audition (Breaking Free) and Ms. Darbus gives Troy and Gabriella the lead roles, making Sharpay and Ryan understudies. Troy and Gabriella both win their respective competitions,(Hoping to kiss to celebrate it but were interrupted) and the film ends when the entire school gathers in the gym to celebrate (We're All In This Together).
A short scene after the credits show Zeke pacing alone in the gym as Sharpay comes running in declaring the cookies she rejected from him earlier "genius!". She then hugs him and he says he'll make her a creme brulee.

Assignment Two
This week we had to decide on our musical theatre song which we are going to perform for our second assignment in either duets or a solo. After thinking about my ideas of a song, I have decided to perform a solo of 'When there was you and me' from 'High School Musical. I have decided that I am going to sing this because I know the musical well and the storyline thoroughly so I am able to understand the emotion needed to perform this song and characterize it well.
